Week 1, Day 4:

Breaking the Lie of Performance

“Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to His mercy He saved us…”

— Titus 3:5 (NKJV)

It’s easy to slip into thinking that God’s love must be earned. That if you pray enough, give enough, serve enough, then He’ll be pleased. But this mindset turns a relationship with God into a transaction—and love was never meant to be transactional.

Many Christians know about grace, but they still operate under pressure. Pressure to be enough. Pressure to “do better.” Pressure to make God happy. But here’s the truth: Jesus already did what was needed. The Father is pleased with you because you’re in Christ, not because you’re perfect.

When you break the lie of performance, you walk in peace. You begin to serve not to earn love—but because you already have it. You no longer see prayer or obedience as a duty, but as a joy. You can finally exhale and live free.

Reflection:

Are there areas in my life where I’m still trying to earn God’s love or approval?

Action Step:

Write down a specific area where you feel pressure to “do more” to be loved by God. Then read Romans 8:1 and remind yourself: There is no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.
